Whitton station starts it’s revamp
The long awaited work to revamp Whitton station has started. The work will be delivered in two phases with phase 1 completing by the start of the Rugby World and phase 2 by spring 2016.
The phase one work will see two temporary access’s put in on either side of the road bridge. This will allow work to be undertaken on the current station frontage and block.
- New toilets
- 3 Ticket machines
- New ticket office
- Retail outlets including a cash point (we have quite a few of those in Whitton already)
- Cycle racks
- Whole new frontage and forecourt
The picture clearly shows the retail space but I don’t see anything resembling the old BATS (taxi) office. The picture also shows the phase 2 work which includes
- A new footbridge
- 2 new lifts (which are long over due)
- New canopies and re-surfaced platforms
The work is long over due but certainly very welcome. Funded equally by LBRUT, RFU, DoT and South West Trains the total cost is expected to be £2milion
